Emerging Technologies and the Evolving Urban Environment
The business strategy behind the MetaCity Concept benefits from the development of new technologies, especially since its core concepts are focused on exploiting information at all levels. The application of maglev systems to elevators is an example and one that is of particular interest to the use of omnimodal logistics in an urban environment.
Although the Vertizonal Elevator technology is designed for passengers only, it is only a matter of engineering for them to handle the omnimodal Metapallet systems. Maximum weight of three metric tons will require upgrading the tracks and handling capabilities, but doing so will enlarge the scope and vision of urban architecture as well.
The Metapallet was inspired by the visions of Paoli Solari and is sweeping illustrations of Arcologies, unified structures that were envisioned to contain all of the services needed by an urban population. Imagining the problems of moving everything required for people in their daily lives quickly brought the idea of a small truck, actually a truck body without the truck. Sof from the dilemma of Solari’s imaginary city structure with their unimagined problems of distribution logistics came to a solution to them. Larger, more integrated buildings are on the minds of all Architects now, and technologies to address their issues are emerging from many industrial groups. The Metapallet needs the Vetizonal elevator, and together the city and the future need them.
